About the VALOR AWARDS

This special luncheon pays tribute to Gwinnett's public safety professionals including firefighters, police and emergency personnel. The program presents the following awards:

  • The Medal of Valor awarded at the gold, silver and bronze level for bravery and heroism.
  • The Lifesaving Award given to the public safety official/unit in recognition of acts taken in a life-threatening situation where an individual's life is in jeopardy.
  • The Public Safety Award given to the Public Safety Person of the Year, Public Safety Unit of the Year and Communications Person of the Year for having performed with exceptional skill, expertise, innovation and results.
  • Medal of Merit Awarded to an outstanding public safety program for the community, and included personal time given both on and off the job.
  • The Purple Heart (awarded as necessary) awarded to any public safety official who has been critically injured or killed in the line of duty while performing his/her responsibilities at the scene of an emergency incident.
